This, our first collection of songs as a trio, brings together some of our favourites from the English tradition, taking inspiration from past interpretations and published collections, with arrangements that revisit this material in new ways. With this source material in mind, we chose a more traditional approach, recording each song in a live setting in a former school room in rural Suffolk. The School Room, built in 1863, was Winston Village’s school up to the early part of the 20th century, and we would like to think that maybe some of the children who attended that school sang some of these songs. All the songs on this album were recorded live over a two-day period during a beautiful April, and through this process we have sought to recreate, as far as possible, a live performance.
